People think that smartphones and laptops are evidence of progress. A certain amount of online searching, for instance, can be good for your brain, and there are apps that can promote brain functions. Yet technology advancements also come with some unintended consequences.
Studies have shown that blue - enriched light from electronic things like smartphones can disturb the body's internal clock and make it impossible for you to stick to a proper sleep schedule. Losing sleep has negative effects on your brain, such as bad moods, decreased attention and problems of memory.
Technology makes it much easier to get distracted. For example, you step away from an important project to check your smartphone. Teens, in particular, are more distracted than ever. A recent survey of 2,400 teachers found that most educators feel students are more distracted than previous generations. Some 64 percent agreed with the idea that today's digital technology does more to distract students than to help them academically.
And technology makes people much more forgetful than they used to be. The new generation are actually more likely to forget what day it is or where they put their keys than people over the age of 55, according to a Trending Machine survey. In a press about the survey, Jo Patricia, a doctor, said technology was to blame. "This is a generation that has grown up multitasking by using technology and is often accompanied by lack of sleep, which results in high levels of forgetfulness," she said.
People who rely on GPS to get around have less activity in the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in both memory and direction. A study from the University of London even found that taxi drivers had a more developed hippocampus than non -taxi drivers - because they are so accustomed to using spatial (空间的) memory, rather than relying on GPS.
Now that you're probably terrified of the effects of technology, let us remind you that you do have the power to prevent it. Just log off every once in a while!
28. How does technology affect students according to teachers
A. It upsets the new generation. B. It makes students more forgetful.
C. It takes the students' attention away. D. It fails to aid students with their lessons.
29. What is Jo Patricia's attitude towards technology
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Optimistic. D. Conservative.
30. Why do taxi drivers have a more developed hippocampus
A. Because they mainly rely on GPS. B. Because they do more mental exercise.
C. Because they use spatial memory more. D. Because they have a better sense of balance.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. Surveys conducted in a school. B. Apps used to promote memory.
C. Progress made in electronic products. D. Harmful effects brought by technology.
D
Feel the Music
We've all heard of smart phones, but how about smart clothing The CuteCircuit company has stepped up the technology beat and invented the SoundShirt, which was designed specifically for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. How does this incredible shirt work
First, let's talk about a little science. People who have either all or some hearing loss don't actually listen to music the way that hearing people do, but they can feel it. Sound is made up of vibrations, called sound waves, which hearing people can hear through their ears with the help of the brain. What's really cool is that deaf people sense vibrations in the part of the brain that others use for hearing!
So how is this remarkable technology able to function First, CuteCircuit had to figure out a way to send signals to the body, kind of like how you can feel when your phone vibrates in silent mode. Those connections the body can feel are called hapties, a use of technology that simulates the senses of touch and motion. The SoundShirt has tiny sensors woven into the shirt to pick up sound and transfer signals to the brain and body.
To test this music-to-shirt-to-wearer's brain connection, CuteCircuit set microphones around the stage of a symphony orchestra. The shirt's computer system digitally received the sounds coming from the instruments. Then the sensors, working like little motors, changed the signals into vibrations and the shirt wearer's brain did the rest.
The SoundShirt lets people who are deaf or hard of hearing enjoy music in a unique way. The very deep musical sound, or pitch, of instruments like drums and basses vibrates in the lower part of the shirt. Higher pitched sounds from instruments like the flute or violin vibrate higher, around the neck and arms. As the music plays, the sensations combine while the brain gets to work putting together all the different vibrations, allowing the wearer to "hear" the concert.
You might think this innovation (创新) would look like something out of a science fiction movie, but in fact, these shirts are wireless! And the decorative laser -lined design on the shirt looks like an image of sound waves.
Technology's purpose is to help people and make life better. Think of all the amazing things designers, engineers, and producers of wearable tech will be able to do for humankind.
32. What's the passage mainly about
A. Deep musical sounds from drums vibrate in the lower part of the SoundShirt.
B. The SoundShirt lets people who are deaf or hard of hearing enjoy music.
C. Wearable technology like the SoundShirt is the wave of the future.
D. CuteCircuit tested the SoundShirt with a symphony orchestra.

A. The SoundShirt is made without any wires.
B. Deaf people are unable to sense sound vibrations.
C. The shirt wearer's brain change sound signals into vibrations.
D. The sounds from the flute vibrate in the lower part of the SoundShirt.
34. What can be inferred about the SoundShirt described in the passage
A. The SoundShirt works when the wearer is listening to a symphony orchestra.
B. CuteCircuit is giving away its SoundShirts to those deaf or hard of hearing.
C. The SoundShirt doesn't work without the power of the human brain.
D. Before the SoundShirt, deaf people had no way of feeling sound.
35. The author probably wrote this passage to ________.
A. advise that companies should focus on applying wearable technology
B. advocate that technology can be used to create products that help others
C. prove that the design of wearable technology is a rewarding industry in future
D. exemplify that musical instruments can be used to change technology for the better

根据文章最后一段“Technology’s purpose is to help people and make life better. Think of all the amazing things designers, engineers, and producers of wearable tech will be able to do for humankind.
They will also be kids who don't dye their hair, smoke or drink. The best students won't only have high marks.
37. A 根据下句That's not honest. A项:Don't do it again! 故选A项。
In that way,you can learn more about animals and how to protect them.
Be open to new ideas. B项:Everyone's ideas are important.
You can use the web for fun or homework.
45. B 结合第三段中的“a rare condition that causes her eyes to shift (移动) constantly”和“She often sees double”可知,她不能很“好”地看清物体。
as表示“当……
故填to make。
根据“Since joining the World Heritage Convention in 1985”可知,句子应用现在完成时。“the number of…” 故填has grown。
“the number of world heritage sites in China”与“allow”之间是逻辑上的主谓关系,所以此处应填现在分词形式作结果状语。
“China has added 15 new world heritage sites”和“six of ________ have been included in the relevant lists of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)”之间没有连词,且由逗号隔开,由此可判断出“six of…intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) ”是非限制性定语从句。 故填which。
故填were listed。
故填in。
主语为I,be动词用was。故am改为was。
故decided后加to。
3. At→On 考查介词。 故At改为On。
8. and→but 考查连词。 故and改为but。
9. the→a 考查冠词。 此处为固定短语as a result“因此”。故the改为a。
10. that→which 考查定语从句。 故that改为which。
The Most Impressive Invention
When it comes to the most impressive invention, the first that jumps into my mind is mobile payment, which means you can pay for your purchases using your smart phone instead of cash.
Mobile payment is rather easy to use, thus making it widely accepted. After shopping, you just have to scan a code, type in the price you need to pay and your password, and the money will automatically be transferred to the seller’s account.
There is no doubt that mobile payment has made our daily life much more convenient. Moreover, it can be said that mobile payment in China is highly advanced in the whole world. As a student, we should be open-minded and shoulder the responsibility to make our country a better place.
(Text 1)
M: You’re 15 minutes late. Why did you keep me waiting for so long
W: Sorry! I got stuck in a traffic jam.
M: Well, at least you made it in time for the lecture. It will start in 5 minutes, so we’d better find our seats.
(Text 2)
W: I don't see any parking spots. Should I turn back here
M: This is a one-way street, so you'll have to turn left instead. We can drive around and keep looking. We might have to park a couple of blocks away.
(Text 3)
M: Being a homeowner is a lot of extra work. We have to clean the inside and outside of the house. I hardly have any time for myself these days.
W: Wait until we have kids. Then you'll really know what work is!
(Text 4)
M: Excuse me. What's the best way to get downtown, by subway
W: Actually not. If you're in a hurry, you should take a taxi, but it's very expensive.
M: I'm in no particular hurry.
W: Well, you could take an airport bus then. That will cost you only about $5.
M: That's a good idea.
(Text 5)
M: Would you like me to take those suitcases for you, madam I can take them up to your room for you while you check in.
W: Thank you. That would be great. Here's $5 for your trouble.
(Text 6)
W: Would you like some tea or coffee
M: No, thank you. It's very late now. If I drink any tea or coffee, I'll be awake the whole night.
W: How about some water
M: Yes, please.
W: Don't work too late! Your health hasn't been very good lately, so do be careful.
M: I know, but I have to finish these reports tonight. Our manager needs them for the meeting tomorrow morning.
W: Can I help you with anything
M: No, I'm afraid you can't. Could you just turn the TV down a little so that it's not so noisy
W: Yes, of course.
(Text 7)
W: Hello. Are you flying to St. Martin today
M: Yes, I have my passport here.
W: Great. I'll need to see your ticket as well.
M: I have an e-ticket. Uh...is this what you need
W: Actually, I just need your full name so I can find you in the computer.
M: Oh, okay. It's Bates, Frank Bates.
W: Great. Here we are. Oh, you're traveling with a small child today.
M: Yes, my daughter Mia. She's 14 months old.
W: Okay. I'll need to see your daughter's birth certificate to prove that she is under two years of age.
M: Here you are. Say, would we be able to get a seat next to the walkway
W: Sure. I'll put you near the washroom.
M: Thanks. Can I take my baby carriage to the gate
W: Yes, we'll check it in the over-sized luggage after you board. Are you just checking these two bags
M: Yes, I'll take my backpack as my carry-on.
W: Okay. Here is your boarding pass. Be at the gate one hour before the boarding time.
(Text 8)
W: Good morning, Dr. Green. I need your help.
M: What's the matter
W: It's my weight. Everyone in my neighborhood laughs at me.
M: What have you done to lose weight
W: I've been trying to eat less as my relatives told me, but it hasn't helped. Is there any medicine I could take to help with this I'm going to have an interview soon for a new job, and I'd really like to look a little better for it.
M: Well, it's not a good idea to eat less. You should continue eating plenty of food, but concentrate on eating more healthy food, like fruits and vegetables.
W: So no hamburgers and hot dogs
M: Not too many, and you should try to do a bit more exercise.
W: I'm busy at my job from morning to night, and I can't afford to go to a gym.
M: You don't have to go to a gym. Just walking more would help. Whenever you do walk, try to walk more quickly than you usually do. Whenever you take a bus, try getting off one stop early and walking the rest of the way. You could also try taking the stairs sometimes instead of the elevator.
W: That's a good idea.
M: Don't lose heart! Just keep trying, and you'll certainly manage to lose weight.
(Text 9)
M: What's with all the little red things all over your arms, Lauren It looks like you have some sort of disease. W: Oh, I know! They're so disgusting. I hate them! And they're not just there, they're everywhere! Look at my legs. They are also there. I must be allergic to something.
M: At least you don't have them on your face.
W: So, what do you think I should do I went to the drugstore, and they gave me some medicine, but it doesn't seem to be working.
M: You are allergic to something I have known you for years, and you never said anything to me about that. W: Well, but what else could it be I mean, I haven't eaten anything different lately.
M: Maybe it was something you touched. What did you do this weekend
W: I went for a hike up on Snake Mountain.
M: Snake Mountain No wonder! That place has poisonous plants growing everywhere!
W: Oh, my God. I never thought of that. Maybe I should go to see a doctor right now.
(Text 10)
W: Sydney is one of Australia's oldest, largest and liveliest cities with a population of more than three million. It is a colorful, modern city but it is also a place of natural beauty with green parkland and perhaps the world's most beautiful deep water harbor. Besides modern buildings and roads, the city has many places of historical interest. For example, Mr. Masquerade's Chair, the area called the Rocks dating back to the early nineteenth century, and attractive rows of houses in Paddington are all close to the harbor and the city center.
Sydney has many other attractions of great interest to tourists, such as a zoo, the Koala Bear Park and the Sydney Opera House, located at the water's edge. Many people say that the Opera House is one of the most outstanding examples of beautifully designed modern buildings in the world. There is also an excellent transportation network around the city, including an underground railway, buses and taxis, so it is easy to get around the city. Sydney's pleasant climate also makes it an attractive tourist destination. The average temperature in summer is just a little above 20℃, and in winter not below 12℃.
