Are you good with money Do you get pocket money from your parents or do you work to make money Read on to find out about British teenagers and their money!
Pocket money
Most teenagers in Britain receive pocket money from their parents. They might have to do some housework to get pocket money, including cleaning, cooking, washing dishes and so on.
Part-time work
A part-time job is a choice for teenagers who don’t have pocket money or who want to get extra money. About 15% teenagers have a job. Only children over the age of 13 can work. Popular part-time jobs for teens include babysitting, delivering(递送)newspapers, restaurant work and shop work. Children in Britain can work two hours a day at the most on a school day but not during school hours. During weekends and school holidays, they can work longer hours.
Bank accounts(账户)
Some children and teenagers have a bank account. There is no age limit at which you can open a bank account, but a bank manager can decide whether to open an account for a child or a young person. Parents can put pocket money directly into their child’s bank account. Most banks have a prepaid bank card designed for young people.
Mobile apps
Many companies have made mobile APPs for children, including GoHenry, Osper and Gimi. Parents can add money to their children’s accounts and check to see how the money is spent. Children can choose to save their money or spend it using a card. The APPs suggest that kids from 8 to 13 can use the cards.
So, many teenagers are getting experience working part-time, dealing with banks and deciding whether to save or spend their money. These are all steps towards becoming a financially independent(经济独立的)person and making and looking after your own money.

In many high schools, there are strict rules about using mobile phones. If your phone rings in class, for example, the teacher will be very angry.
Every mobile phone has a ringtone(铃声) . It tells you that someone is calling you. Now, there is a ringtone called “mosquitotone(蚊子铃声) ”. Using it, students can receive calls and text messages in class but the teacher will not realize what is happening. How Mosquitotone has a special sound. Only children and teenagers can hear it. As we get older, we are unable to hear some sounds with high frequencies(频率) . As a result, a child or teenager can hear the mosquitotone ringtone, but it’s inaudible to someone 20 or older. But sometimes, people over 20 can hear the ringtone. One British student’s phone uses mosquitotone. In class, the student’s phone rang. The 32-year-old teacher looked at the student and became unhappy. “I heard that. You know the rule: no mobile phone in class. ”
Not all the students are interested in mosquitotone. Jerry Jones, a high school student of 17, says, “Using mosquitotone too often is bad for our hearing. I may use it for pleasure, but not in class. It’s unfair to the teachers!” What do parents think of mosquitotone “I think it is perfect for places like movies and theaters.” says Connie Nelson, 44. “Think about it. You’re watching a film and someone’s mobile phone rings. Mosquitotone is good because many people don’t hear it. However, it also has a bad influence on their study if students use it in class. ”

Most people have a favorite color, but how people feel about colors depends on their culture. This can be very important to people in business that sell products all over the world. They might choose a color because they think it is exciting or attractive, but in another country that same color could be used to give a sad message. Look at these examples:
If you ask someone in Britain what the right color is for a bride(新娘) to wear, the answer will be white. In China and other eastern countries, brides often wear red because the color red is a sign of good luck, happiness and prosperity(繁荣). ____________ In Britain, red is used as a sign of danger. Road signs and warning labels (标签) are often in red. In eastern cultures, the color red does not mean you have to be careful.
In Egypt, yellow is the color linked to death(死亡). In Britain and other western cultures, death and funerals(葬礼) are usually linked to the color black, but in many eastern countries white is the color most people connect with death and funerals.
Many people like the color orange because it is bright and exciting. Some advertisers will not use orange in their advertisements because they believe it suggests that the products are cheap and perhaps not of good quality.
In a word, colors have different meanings in different cultures. We should learn to choose the proper color in some special situation.
