A. where B. that C. which D. when
【答案】A

故选A。
2. My eldest son, ________work takes him all over the world, is in New York at the moment.
A. whose B. his C. which D. who
【答案】A
故选A项。
3. He was late again, ________made the teacher ________.
A. who; annoying B. which; annoyed
C. that; annoying D. that; annoyed
A. who谁;annoying令人恼火的;B. which这;annoyed恼火的;C. that那个,可以连接从句;annoying令人恼火的;D. that那个,可以连接从句;annoyed恼火的。
4. This is the very knife I used to cut apples yesterday.
A. which B. by which C. that D. with that
5. The happiness, ________ for many years, is always there for me, but I was blinded by strong desire for fame.
A. for which I have looked B. that I have looked for
C. which I have looked for D. I have looked for

6. ________is known to everybody, Taiwan is a part of China.
A. It B. As C. That D. Which

8. Scientists will produce plastic materials from beans, but right now the new product_____ in the lab.
A. is being developed B. has been developed C. is developing D. has developed
【答案】A

9. .Rainforests __and burned at such a speed that they will disappear from the earth in the future.
A. cut B. are cut C. are being cut D. had been cut
10. We have to hold the meeting in the small hall because the meeting room where we planned to hold the meeting________.
A. is being decorated B. is decorating
C. will be decorated D. being decorated

B
“Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah Do you understand what I am saying ” I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural.
The anecdote (轶事) above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago. A three-week stay in Malaysia once every few years was often the highlight of my summers — what more can you ask from a food paradise (天堂) But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought accompanying feelings of guilt that I just couldn’t seem to translate. For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture. I was a girl lost in translation, passively absorbing the various tongues shouted between the stalls (摊位) in the wet markets, quietly nodding along at my grandparents’ huge family dinners.
In America though, I am a different person. I don’t think twice about my grammar when speaking. I don’t struggle with the words and fear that my logic and stories won’t get through to people. So as a native English speaker, I do not have to worry daily about whether I’m judged for having an accent or whether I’m misunderstood across languages. In Malaysia, I naturally burst out “have you eaten ” instead of recalling the Malaysian equivalent “you makan already ” In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak — my accent, intonation, sentence structure, slang — gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.
14. How did the author feel in the anecdote
A. Confused and scared. B. Embarrassed and nervous.
C. Curious and surprised. D. Upset and puzzled.
15. Why did the author feel guilty according to Paragraph 2
A. Because she had to stay away from her family.
B. Because she didn’t enjoy speaking the language.
C. Because she had to accept what grandparents said.
D. Because she found it hard to understand the culture.
16. What can we learn about the author from the last paragraph
A. She was a good language learner.
B. She didn’t like being an Asian.
C. She was judged unfairly in Malaysia.
D. She spoke English unconsciously in Malaysia.
17. From which column of the website does this article probably come from
A. Culture B. News. C. Education. D. Humor.
B 15. D 16. D 17. A

根据首段中的“I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural.(呆呆地盯着说话的人,我嘴唇张开,脑海中的想法清晰,但无法用我不熟悉的语言表达自己的回答。在一个不舒服的停顿之后,一堆话从我的嘴里溢出,听起来很强迫,很不自然。)”和第二段中“The anecdote (轶事) above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago.(上面的轶事是几年前我在马来西亚的一次半对话)”可知,在这件事情中,作者不知道如何用恰当的语言去表达自己的想法,被迫说出一些很不自然的话,由此推知,作者会感到尴尬和紧张。故选B项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture. I was a girl lost in translation, passively absorbing the various tongues shouted between the stalls (摊位) in the wet markets, quietly nodding along at my grandparents’ huge family dinners.(每隔几个夏天,我就会有一个月的时间,体会到在自己的文化中做一个局外人的感觉。我是一个迷失在翻译中的女孩,被动地吸收着菜市场摊位之间喊的各种话语,在爷爷奶奶的大型家庭聚餐上默默点头。)”可知,作者作为马来西亚人,在面对自己文化时总有一种局外人的感觉,被动接受摊位上人们的话语以及聚餐时默默的回应着家人,由此可推断,作者感到愧疚的原因是发现自己不能理解自己的文化。故选D项。
【16题详解】
细节理解题。根据尾段中的“In Malaysia, I naturally burst out ‘have you eaten ’ instead of recalling the Malaysian equivalent ‘you makan already ’(在马来西亚,我自然会说出“你吃过饭了吗?”,而不是想起马来西亚的对应句子“you makan already ”)”可知,作者在马来西亚说英语时,如同在美国一样是“无意识地”说出自己想表达的内容。
通读全文,结合首段中的“Do you understand what I am saying ” I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range.(呆呆地盯着说话的人,我嘴唇张开,脑海中的想法清晰,但无法用我不熟悉的语言表达自己的回答。)”和第二段中的“For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture.(每隔几个夏天,我就会有一个月的时间,体会到在自己的文化中做一个局外人的感觉。)” 故选A项。
C
Somalia, Kenya, and now Ethiopia are warning of a serious drought (干旱)that affects millions of people in Eastern Africa. In Ethiopia’s Somali area, people have seen the failures of what should have been three straight rainy seasons. Droughts do come and go over the years. However, the lack of rainfall has led to the driest conditions in 40 years in parts of Somalia and Ethiopia.
UNICEF is the United Nation’s children’s agency. Local Zaynab Wali told a visiting team with UNICEF that she and her seven children had never seen a drought like this. She said the government gave out food for animals during the last drought five years ago. “This time, we even don’t have enough food for our family.”
Children walk among the bodies of dead animals, which died from lack of food and energy. Somalia Consortium works to improve international aid for Somalia. It said in a separate statement that in Somalia, more than 7 million people need emergency help. It is asking international organizations to give much more to the country.
“We are just one month into the long dry season, and I have already lost 25 goats and sheep,” Hafsa Bedel in Ethiopia’s Somali area told UNICEF. She also lost four camels, a large desert animal, as well. She said there was nowhere for her animals to eat. She added that there was not enough food for her own family, including her six children.
UNICEF thinks that more than 150,000 children in such areas of Ethiopia have dropped out of school. They are needed to help find the limited amount of water and help their families with other work.
One young boy was seen supporting an animal, a donkey. The donkey was once important for carrying goods. But now, it had become too weak to walk on its own.
18. Why did Zaynab Wali mention the last drought
A. To show the need to protect animals. B. To express her disappointment this time.
C. To prove the high frequency of drought. D. To praise the government for its timely help.
19. What is Somalia Consortium trying to do now
A. Get more foreign help.
B. Warn people of the risk of drought.
C. Offer more education to the children there.
D. Make clear the number of people in need.
20. What does the last paragraph mainly want to tell us
A. The sweet picture of the boy and the animal.
B. The functions of animals in farming.
C. The importance of taking care of the weak animal.
D. The seriousness of the drought.
21. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. Drought in Eastern Africa Leaves Animals in Danger
B. Drought Makes People of Eastern Africa Leave Their Home
C. UN Officials Care for Children Affected by Drought
D. Millions Face Risk as Drought Affects Eastern Africa
【答案】18 B 19. A 20. D 21. D

根据文章第二段“Local Zaynab Wali told a visiting team with UNICEF that she and her seven children had never seen a drought like this. She said the government gave out food for animals during the last drought five years ago. “This time, we even don’t have enough food for our family.”(当地的Zaynab Wali告诉联合国儿童基金会的一个来访小组,她和她的七个孩子从来没有见过这样的干旱。
根据文章第三段“Somalia Consortium works to improve international aid for Somalia. It said in a separate statement that in Somalia, more than 7 million people need emergency help. It is asking international organizations to give much more to the country.(索马里联合会致力于改善对索马里的国际援助。它在一份单独的声明中说,在索马里,有700多万人需要紧急帮助。它要求国际组织向该国提供更多援助。)”可知索马里联合会在尽力去获得更多的国外援助;故选A项。
【20题详解】
推理判断题。根据文最后一段“One young boy was seen supporting an animal, a donkey. The donkey was once important for carrying goods. But now, it had become too weak to walk on its own.(有人看到一个小男孩扶着一头驴子。
D
With digital devices always in hand, we are constantly connected to news, entertainment, and social interactions that seem to fill every moment of our day. It appears that boredom has nearly reached extinction. However, these short-term digital “solutions” may only serve to strengthen the grip of boredom over us. It’s like an addiction where we need more and more intense stimulation (刺激) to fight boredom. And this could finally lead to more boredom in the long run. Rather than fighting a constant battle against boredom, it is easier and more productive to actually embrace it and enjoy the benefits of being bored.
Paula Smith, a psychology professor in the UK, says boredom is an essential part of the creative process and should be applied in our day-to-day lives. During one of her studies into the effects of boredom, Smith’s researchers gave subjects various boring tasks to complete and then asked them to use their creative thinking. The people who had the most boring task — reading the phone book — came up with the most interesting uses plastic cups, which is a standard test of divergent thinking. Smith says that boredom encourages people’s minds to wander, leading them to more associative and creative ways of thinking.
Researchers in Ireland believe that boredom can encourage us to be more altruistic. In other words, boredom makes people more likely to engage in behaviors like donating to the charity and volunteering in the community. In their study, they found that when people are bored, they are less aware of their own activities and circumstances. This, they say, motivates people to search elsewhere to re-establish their self-meaning.
So next time you feel bored, don’t scroll it away on your phones. Not every gap should be filled with something to do. Sometimes less is most definitely more.
22. According to the writer, digital devices ________.
A. enable users to become more productive
B. help people enjoy the benefits of being bored
C. make it harder for users to overcome boredom
D. will eventually lead to the extinction of boredom
23. What is Smith’s research about
A. The possible solutions to boredom.
B. The application of creative thinking patterns.
C. The approaches to stimulate creative thinking.
D. The relationship between boredom and creativity.
24. The underlined word “altruistic” in paragraph 3 most probably means ________.
A. active B. generous C. creative D. confident
25. Which of the following statements best summarizes the writer’s opinion
A. Stay busy, stay creative.
B. Keep away from boredom.
C. When you feel bored, be bored
D. Less boredom is more creativity.
C 23. D 24. B 25. C

17. From which column of the website does this article probably come from
A. Culture B. News. C. Education. D. Humor.
